Mandala
The word Mandala means "circle" in Sanskrit. I have been creating manadalas for many years as a form of active meditation. The shape of a circle represents wholeness, a model for the orgaizational structure of life itself, similar to fractals -- a cosmic and mathematical diagram modeling the organizational structure of the world extending both beyond and within our bodies and our relation to the infinite.
Besides, mandalas are so fun and colorful to make and you can never mess one up or lose your direction. I like to use color pencils on paper and acrylic or oils on canvas.
